Truth and Knowledge
From Unfocusgroup.org
Discuss the idea of truth, knowledge and interpretations of probability.
Science as a frequentist-predictive model based on past observations. Not the truth.
Discuss the limits of microscopy. Even the eye is not reliable, e.g. you can think that you see yellow light, when you are in fact seeing red mixed with green. Nobody has ever "seen" an atom, but we can measure the phenomenon of an atom. We can also, to some extent, predict the behaviour of an atom, but not as reliably as many would expect. Current models of particle physics are probabilistic rather than deterministic. Yet this escapes many hierarchical reductionists.
