Animal-Based Sports

If the recession deepens, one thing that may become popular is sports involving animals. Animal-based sports are popular in poor countries, and have a number of advantages over human-based sports:

• You don't have to pay animals a salary, so they are cheaper than our existing sports stars.
• Animals aren't expected to be role models for our kids. They will compete fiercely, or refuse to participate on a whim, and nobody moralises about it.
• Animal-based sports have a fun, random element.

One thing that we lack is a good team-based sport where animals are the sole participants. I guess that this is because animals choose their loyalties and will not accept a human-assigned team structure. It's a shame, otherwise we could have dogs vs cats at football, which would be quite entertaining.
